Yesterday Sarah Silverman and Weird Al Yankovic were on the season premiere of the kids show Yo Gabba Gabba. Have you watched it? Do your kids watch it? It’s been on Nick Jr. since August of 2007.
About two years ago, my son (now 5) started to tell me that he wanted to watch “Brobee.” And some days he told me that he was being “Brobee.” I think that it took me about a month to figure out that Brobee was a weird looking green striped monster on a new show called Yo Gabba Gabba. When I finally watched it, it was different than any other kids show on TV…psychedelic colors and retro-electric keyboard sounding music along with old school robot puppets…the perfect parent/toddler entertainment. And that was what creators Christian Jacobs and Scott Schultz (live interview) were aiming for, a show that parents and toddlers would enjoy watching together.
Maybe that is why Hollywood is lining up to guest star in it. The funniest episode was probably last season’s “New Friends,” with Jack Black, which is currently being rerun on Nick Jr. this week and thru the rest of the month. In it, Jack Black rides into town on a motorcycle, teaches the robots his favorite “dancey dance” and then dons DJ Lance’s orange jumpsuit for a “good-bye song” before he drives off into the ether. Picture Jack Black in a tight crazy orange jumpsuit—need I say more? Hilarious!
So set your DVR now. Star-studded new episodes are daily this week at 10:30am ET on Nickelodeon. You can catch reruns on Nick and Nick Jr. If you missed the episode yesterday, “Circus,” with Sarah and Al, it will be rerun this Friday, March 12th.
